Wills and Probate - What you need to know.

Liz Garratt, a qualified solicitor from Rickard and Cleaver with over 23 years of experience, will explain the essentials of making wills and lasting powers of attorney as well as dealing with probate. Liz offers a legal perspective on the:

  • importance of having an up to date Will and the implications of dying Intestate (no Will)

  • use of the Residence nil rate band which gives up to an extra £175,000 exemption on inheritance tax if you leave your property to a linear descendant

  • pitfalls of having no Will if you are cohabiting rather than married and the importance of appointing a legal guardian for minor children

  • need for everyone over 18 to consider creating a Lasting Power of Attorney

  • the current Probate process.

There will be a question and answer session, with time for private questions.
